Belarusian President Set for N. Korea Visit

(MENAFN) Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is set to make an official two-day state visit to Pyongyang on March 25-26, following a formal invitation extended by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The Belarusian presidential press service outlined an ambitious agenda for the summit, with the two leaders expected to review the full spectrum of bilateral relations, pinpoint priority areas of shared strategic interest, and chart the most viable joint projects for future implementation.

"The upcoming visit is intended to strengthen the legal framework for bilateral relations and promote greater bilateral cooperation," the press service stated.

The visit marks a significant milestone in a relationship that has grown steadily warmer in recent years, with a series of high-level diplomatic exchanges reflecting both nations' appetite for deeper political and economic alignment.

The groundwork for Lukashenko's Pyongyang trip was laid in September last year, when Kim extended a personal invitation to the Belarusian leader to visit "at any convenient time" — a conversation that took place on the sidelines of a military parade in the Chinese capital, Beijing.

Diplomatic momentum has been building since. In May 2025, a Belarusian government delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleyko traveled to Pyongyang for a three-day session — the third convening of a joint committee dedicated to trade and economic cooperation between the two nations.

Tuesday's announcement signals that Lukashenko and Kim are now ready to translate that momentum into concrete agreements, as both countries deepen ties that increasingly draw international scrutiny.
