North Korea, Russia Meet in Pyongyang for Security Talks

(MENAFN) North Korea and Russia have agreed to strengthen cooperation and exchanges in law enforcement following senior-level discussions held in Pyongyang, according to state media reports.

A meeting took place on Tuesday between North Korea’s Public Security Minister and Russia’s Interior Minister at a government venue in the North Korean capital. The talks, as described in reports, focused on sharing experiences in policing and security work, as well as exploring ways to broaden coordination between internal affairs and security agencies.

The discussions were characterized as taking place in a friendly atmosphere, reflecting what officials described as increasingly close relations between the two countries.

The Russian minister had arrived in Pyongyang a day earlier for an official working visit.

Over recent years, Moscow and Pyongyang have significantly expanded their political and security relationship, culminating in a formal strategic partnership agreement signed in 2024.

The agreement includes provisions for mutual support in the event of external attacks.

In a related development last year, North Korea reportedly deployed military engineering personnel to Russia’s Kursk region to assist with mine-clearing operations linked to the conflict with Ukraine, further highlighting growing defense-related cooperation between the two sides.
