Russian Delegation Visits North Korea
According to the Defense Ministry, Belousov is expected to meet with senior North Korean leadership as well as the command structure of the country’s armed forces. The ministry stated, "As part of the visit, the head of the Russian military department will hold meetings in Pyongyang with the top leadership of the DPRK and the command of the country's armed forces, and will take part in ceremonial and commemorative events," the ministry said.
Upon his arrival at Pyongyang airport, Belousov was received by North Korean Defense Minister No Gwang-chol, marking a formal welcome to the Russian delegation.
Earlier the same day, Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of Russia’s lower house of parliament, the State Duma, also held a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Volodin had arrived in Pyongyang on Saturday to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Memorial Complex and the Museum of Combat Feats of Heroes of the Foreign Military Operation, which honors North Korean soldiers who were killed while fighting alongside Russia in the Ukraine conflict.
During the opening of the meeting, Volodin conveyed strong sentiments to Kim Jong-un, stating, "It is a great honor for us to be in Pyongyang these days, to participate in the opening of the Memorial Complex and the Museum of Combat Feats of Heroes of the Foreign Military Operation. The Russian people will never forget the feat of the Korean soldiers," Volodin told Kim at the opening of the meeting.
