Russian Defense Minister Meets North Korean Leadership
The ministry said Belousov is expected to hold discussions with North Korea’s top leadership as well as senior officials within the country’s armed forces. His visit will also include participation in ceremonial and commemorative events in Pyongyang.
Upon arrival at Pyongyang airport, Belousov was received by North Korean Defense Minister No Gwang-chol, according to the same reports.
Officials stated that the agenda includes meetings with senior political and military figures in North Korea, along with attendance at events marking recent commemorations linked to military cooperation.
The visit comes shortly after another high-level Russian delegation was in Pyongyang. The chairman of Russia’s lower house of parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin, met North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during his stay.
Volodin arrived in Pyongyang on Saturday ahead of a ceremony opening a memorial complex and museum dedicated to North Korean soldiers who reportedly died while supporting Russia in the war in Ukraine.
During that visit, Volodin praised the cooperation between the two countries, stating:
"It is a great honor for us to be in Pyongyang these days, to participate in the opening of the Memorial Complex and the Museum of Combat Feats of Heroes of the Foreign Military Operation. The Russian people will never forget the feat of the Korean soldiers," according to reports.
The back-to-back visits highlight deepening political and military engagement between Moscow and Pyongyang, as stated in the reports.
